Sanys – Passing Through
Some time around mid-2020, Sanys found an anomaly during the course of his usual studio experimentation. As most of us were around that time, he was holed up alone, locked down and unable to live life normally. Luckily for us, he was with his gear, working diligently on new forms of music.
During one particularly intense session, Sanys felt as if he had stumbled upon something very different. With his arrangement in place, he was carefully processing individual tracks and began to experience a profound sadness. As he further played with the sound, he found he could elicit other strong emotions, including anger, joy, anxiety, and eventually even physical pain.
As he continued to develop the signal chain, he eventually discovered that he could pinpoint the distance and magnitude of the effect of the sound. After a grueling night of work, the sun was just peeking over the horizon, and he prepared to engage his most highly powered test yet. He targeted a pair of shoes hanging over a power line some 50 yards outside his window. In an unexpected, last-minute turn, a pigeon landed on the open window sill–directly in the path of the sound–and exploded into a poof of smoke and plume of feathers. At this point, he knew he had to protect humanity from the potential damage his discovery could cause.
Sanys vowed to use his discovery for good, and headed to bed to rest and clear his head. Upon waking, the previous day’s events seemed so surreal, he hurried into the studio to validate his memory. As he approached the pile of feathers at the window, he noticed two men in dark suits, sunglasses, and earpieces at the opposite street corner. He knew he had to immediately flee Saint Petersburg.
Sanys gathered his notes, packed his critical gear, sent coded messages to his closest friends, and booked an Uber Copter. As he hoisted the last box through the roof hatch, he heard pounding at his studio door. His suspicions about being watched for his directed sound energy experiments were confirmed; they were coming for him and his technology. The pilot urged him to get to the chopper. The blades spun up, Sanys piled the last box in, and jumped aboard just as the authorities were breaching his studio.
After the narrow escape and a criss-cross journey between safehouses, Sanys settled in his highly-fortified, remote, and undisclosed location where he could continue his experiments. When I reached out for this song, I explained that I was looking for an evocative piece that would convey intensity but not any particular emotion. He certainly delivered. Sanys’s soundscape presents a rush of immersive, gentle, and warming feelings that intensify the listener’s mood. His experiments have proven to have stayed in the right hands, and I’m honored to be able to present the results.
